List of FREE Useful Programs

This is just a list of useful programs that i have on my computer, and a short description of what they do.  I will try to update/continuously populate this list from time to time.

  • Firefox – Everyone’s favorite web browser.  Also install AdBlock Plus, Greasemonkey, Greasefire, Web Developer Toolbar, Download Statusbar, DownThemall
  • Notepad ++ – Notepad replacement, no-frills IDE, word processer, or whatever.
  • Putty – SSH
  • WinSCP – FTP
  • Foobar 2000 – Modular music player, try out DarkOne as a theme.
  • VirtualBox – Virtual machines are awesome.
  • 7Zip - probably the best archive manager out there.  Supports just about any format, including multiparts.
  • Daemon Tools – Virtual CD tool, great for mounting iso’s.  The lite (free) version does everything I need, and the new widget is fantastic.
  • Dropbox – Automated backups to the cloud, hosts 1+ gigs, is AWESOME.
  • F.lux – A sweet little program that automagically adjusts your screen at night to a redder, easier to look at hue.  Very nice.
  • prtscr – Screenshots, done right.
  • uTorrent – Tiny little torrenting client!
  • IrfanView – Super versatile image/media viewer, be sure to install all the plugins!
